Have you asked yourself the question "Do I love what I do for a living?"

As a Creative Director, Brand Coach and after 16 years in the design industry (and still apart of it), through Bespoke2, I can actually NOW say I really love what I do for a living. Don’t get me wrong, I have always been passionate about design, and designing for others too (which I still love to do, through my boutique design studio See Design Australia). However, building my own online store, that enables me to create freely, serve and be immersed in the Word of God, and give back to missions and greater good causes across the globe.. well this is truly a sweet sweet added blessing.

So it got me thinking… I really wanted to gain some insight and advice from Entrepreneurial Christian women who I can see are passionate, not only about God and His Word but that live a working life with spiritual purpose, confidence, encouragement and who clearly are motivated for others to love what they do for a living every day.

Tips on loving what you do for a living!

Over the coming few weeks, I will be posting my “Love God. Love What You Do." blog series, that showcase women who have answered my key questions. Small snippets (as I know how time poor we can all get:) but each packed with powerful instructions, timely encouragement and hopefully inspire you to begin your journey to love what you do, with the spiritual assurance that through Christ, all things are possible!

So lets begin!

Meet Carmen Miller. I haven’t actually physically met her yet, but our online correspondence through Instagram and emails have been a real treat and I feel like I know her intimately already! Carmen is the Founder and President of Whole Magazine and the online community Sisters In Scripture. If that doesn’t keep her busy - then you can add she is a mother of five children!! I’m exhausted thinking about it.. but also truly inspired, knowing her advice, leadership and determination to serve others with Godly purpose is incredibly insightful.

Tips on loving what you do for a living!

Here are Carmen’s answers to my two key questions:
What 3 valuable pieces of advice or tips have you received or would give to someone trying to decide what it is it they love to do for a living, how to go about doing it or how hard can it be to make a living of doing what you love.

  1. Pray a lot!- It isn't an easy transition going from the corporate world to at home mom, wife, and leader. There are days I ask myself if I made the right choice for me and my family, and can begin to doubt my calling. But, I know those thoughts are not of my Father, and He gently reminds me that he doesn't call the qualified, but qualifies the called!

  2. Have faith - Be prepared for things to go NOT as planned. Yes, we can plan, and stratagize all we want, but sometimes often things just happen that were not on the books. The Bible tells us that a man's heart plans his ways, but the Lord directs his steps (Proverbs 16:9). Maybe a business idea didn't fall through. Instead of fretting, praise God for his grace and goodness. He knows best, and perhaps it wasn't what HE had planned for you. Remember, that we can create all the plans of our heart's desires, but God's plan trumps them all. If we could see what He sees, we probably wouldn't have taken that route, so trust in Him. Rest in Him. And have faith in His ways, always, because His ways are best.

  3. Don't try to do it alone - My biggest mistake was trying to do everything by myself. I didn't want to ask for help. I thought I could do all. After a while I became worn out, burnt out, and just plain tired. I was spending so much time doing ministry that I had forgotten my first love. Jesus. So I humbled myself and asked for help, and was surprised at all the women eager to be a part of this mission. Almost 3 years later we have a full Editing team, and Social Media team. All glory to God. He will place the right people in your path at the right time.

2. What is the key scripture or bible person /story or example and why - that keeps you going day to day in juggling being am awesome wife, mum, writer and President and Editor of Whole Magazine?

Whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. (Colossians 3:17). I never want to do anything that is not in God's will for my life or my family. I want to always abide in Him, and move only when He says move! I have had many, many great ideas on things I wanted to do with the ministry, but great ideas do not necessarily mean "GOD" ideas.

Whole Magazine belongs to God, and I am only the visionary behind it. My passion is to help women who are experiencing brokenness find wholeness through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He is the foundation for the ministry, my family, my marriage, my life. I draw my strength from Him.

There is no way that I could juggle being a mother, wife, writer, Editor, and ministry leader alongside my husband with God Over Porn, without Christ. Something, somewhere would struggle in my life. When He tells me to slow down, and rest, I do. And before anything my marriage, and then my children are my first ministries. To keep every area of my life running smooth, I must stay connected to the Vine. Daily prayer, bible reading, and just sitting at His feet absorbing His love, grace, and His peace that surpasses all understanding. After a long day of cooking, cleaning, picking up toys, and chasing 5 year old rambunctious twins, encouraging and pouring into the lives of others, it is crucial that I make my way back to Cross and rest in my Saviour, and allow Him to pour back into me and minister to my heart.
